Description

Snorkel in paradise!

As you lean back, breathing in the Caribbean air and feeling the sea breeze on your face, you’ll smile and affirm that you’re really on vacation! As your catamaran sails to Isla Mujeres, you will make your way to a location above a coral reef for a fun snorkeling adventure, spotting tropical fish, gorgeous coral, and maybe even a turtle or two. Be transported to a world of wonder, and if you can stay still long enough, you might even make some new aquatic friends!

Lunchtime at a private beach

After working up an appetite from your snorkeling experience, you’ll sail up to a private beach location for lunch and beach time. Splash in the warm Caribbean waters, jump into a game of volleyball, or just snag a spot along the beach and kickback to soak up the tropical sun.

Isla Mujeres: Mexican charm in the middle of the Caribbean

Isla Mujeres, which translates into ‘Island of Women’, lies just off the shores of the Cancun mainland. Not much is know about the ancient history of the island, although there is a small Mayan structure at the southern tip of island. Archaeologists surmise that this structure most likely served as some type navigational landmark or lighthouse for the Mayas making pilgrimages to the island.

Several stories are bantered about as to how the island got its name. The more widely accepted version is that the Spanish explorer, Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba arrived on the island in 1517, and discovered an altar covered with many female figurines. Another version has the Spaniards first setting foot on the island while all the native males were off fishing – giving the impression that only women inhabited the island. Still another story has the Mayans naming the island after the Mayan goddess of fertility – Ixchel – and that young virgins were sent there with the hope that Ixchel would bless them with fertility.

Enjoy a relaxing stroll in ‘downtown’ exploring the small, colorful streets of the island. Traditional crafts from all over Mexico are sold here, giving you the chance to browse for unique gifts and souvenirs to remember your visit to Isla Mujeres.

‘Extreme’ fun on the way back to Cancun

As the day comes to a close, you’ll journey back across incredibly turquoise waters as you dance to favorite tunes and sway to Caribbean vibes. With the Cancun shoreline on the horizon, try your skill with the not so well known ‘extreme’ sport of Spinnaker Sail Flying. The crew will rig-up a simple seat at the bottom of the catamaran’s spinnaker sail and manipulate the sail to fly you in the wind!

Once back at the marina, you’ll say goodbye to new found friends and settle into your assigned transportation for your ride back to your resort.
