HURRICANE OTIS ADVISORY #3

 

October 30, 2023 – 12:00 PM CST  

There are no remaining meteorological advisories regarding Otis.   

 

Destination Status:  

  • Some major roads to Acapulco are open to circulation, with checkpoints along the way to prioritize emergency and humanitarian aid vehicles.  
  • Most communication systems are still down, although a few spots have sporadic mobile service.  
  • Local and federal authorities are still working to restore power and water supply.  

 

Hotel Status:   

  • There is severe damage to most of the destination’s hotel infrastructure.
  • Regarding Hyatt Inclusive Collections properties affected:
    • Dreams Acapulco suffered significant damage. 
  • Company/staff efforts resulted in the organization of a ‘flotilla’ of motor coaches from Mexico City to reach Acapulco to evacuate guests from the resort on Friday 27 October and bring them to Mexico City where they received assistance in returning to their home gateways.  

 

Airport Status:   

  • Acapulco International Airport (ACA) is closed for commercial aviation until further notice.  
  • A humanitarian ‘air bridge’ is open to transport supplies, doctors, and tech support, and to rescue stranded passengers.  

 

Excursions/Activities:   

  • No tourist-related services are operating.

HURRICANE OTIS ADVISORY #2

October 26, 2023 – 10:00 AM CST

 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

Otis, which made landfall as a category 5 hurricane just after midnight causing significant damage, has dissipated inland over southern Mexico. All roads to and from Acapulco are closed due to mudslides and flooding. Telephone, mobile, and internet services are down. Disaster brigades are working to restore power and communication. 

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. 

 

 

Hotel Status: 

  • No official information on damage assessment has been shared yet for Acapulco hotels. 

 

Airport Status: 

  • Acapulco International Airport (ACA) remains closed. 
  • Ixtapa International Airport (ZIH) is open and operating. 

 

Amstar Staff:  

  • We are contacting passengers to schedule departure transportation. 

 

Excursions/Activities: 

  • As of this advisory, all transportation and excursions have been canceled until further notice.

HURRICANE OTIS ADVISORY #1

October 24, 2023 – 4:00 PM CST

 

Hurricane Otis has strengthened into a category 4 storm and could approach category 5 status when it makes landfall along a portion of the southern coast of Mexico in the early morning hours Wednesday.

 

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for 

  • Punta Maldonado westward to Zihuatanejo (Ixtapa) - including Acapulco

 

Hotel Status: 

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected.

 

Airport Status: 

  • Acapulco (ACA) and Ixtapa (ZIH) International Airports are open and operating normally with domestic and international flights continuing to operate as scheduled. 

 

Amstar Staff:  

  • Airport staff are at the airport attending to both arriving and departing passengers.  
  • Hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers.

HURRICANE NORMA ADVISORY #3

October 22, 2023 – 12:00 PM CST

 

Per the National Hurricane Center:

Norma has downgraded to a tropical storm and is continuing to move north-northeastward across the Gulf of California. All hurricane warnings have been discontinued, and there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for Los Cabos.

 

Hotel Status: 

  • While there were some interruptions in power, phone, and internet services, restoration efforts have started, and operations will resume this morning.

 

Airport Status: 

  • Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is open and operating normally. 

 

Amstar Staff:  

  • Amstar airport staff are at the airport ready to welcome and transport customers, both arriving and departing
  • Amstar hotel representatives are on duty and ready to assist customers

 

Excursions/Activities: 

  • Some land excursions are expected to resume operations on Monday 23
  • Water activities are expected to resume operations on Tuesday 24.

HURRICANE NORMA ADVISORY #2

October 21, 2023 – 2:00 PM CST

 

Per the National Hurricane Center:

Norma is now a Category 2 hurricane moving toward the north near 8 mph (13 km/h). The hurricane is expected to make landfall in the hurricane warning area this afternoon, cross the southern portion of Baja California Sur tonight, and emerge over the southern Gulf of California on Sunday.


A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

  • Baja California Sur from Todos Santos to Los Barriles

 

 A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • North of Los Barriles to San Evaristo 
  • North of Todos Santos to Santa Fe 
  • Topolobampo to Mazatlan 

 

Hotel Status:

  • As of this advisory, guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed.

 

Airport Status:

  • Los Cabos International Airport was closed this morning at 7 a.m. 
  • All domestic and international flights are canceled for the day 

 

Amstar Staff: 

  • Amstar office will remain closed and Amstar staff will be working from home to shelter in place. 
  • All Amstar departing passengers for today were contacted yesterday and informed of transfers being canceled/rescheduled.

HURRICANE NORMA ADVISORY #1

October 20, 2023 – 2:00 PM CST

 

Per the National Hurricane Center:

Norma is now a Category 3 hurricane.  The center of the storm is moving toward the north near 7 mph (11 km/h). On the forecast track, Norma is forecast to approach the southern portion of the Baja California peninsula tonight or early Saturday as a Category 1 hurricane, then turn east and approach the western coast of mainland Mexico.


A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

  • Baja California Sur from Todos Santos to Los Barriles

 

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • North of Los Barriles to San Evaristo
  • North of Todos Santos to Santa Fe

 

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for:

  • Las Islas Marias
  • Topolobampo to Bahia Tempehuaya

 

Hotel Status:

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected.

 

Airport Status:

  • Los Cabo International Airport is open and operating normally with domestic and international flights continuing to operate as scheduled.

October 22, 2023 – 11:00 AM AST 

 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

All Hurricane Warnings have been discontinued. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for St. Martin.

 

Airport Status: 

  • Martin’s Princess Juliana International Airport reopened at 9:00 AM local time. 

 

Amstar Staff:  

  • Airport staff is at the airport helping customers with arrivals and departures. 
  • All office and hotel customer service staff will be available starting from 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 23rd.  

 

Excursions/Activities: 

  • All water and land excursions are canceled during the weekend, and expecting to restart operations early in the week.

HURRICANE TAMMY ADVISORY #1 

October 21, 2023 – 15:00 PM AST 

 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

Hurricane Tammy is located near Guadeloupe and Antigua Islands. Heavy rains and strong winds are expected in portions of the Leeward and northern Windward Islands through early Sunday.  

 
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for: 

  • St. Martin island 

  

Hotel Status: 

  • All hotels are preparing for the storm. 
  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected. 

 

Airport Status: 

  • St. Martin’s Princess Juliana International Airport is closed until Sunday 22nd at 9:00 AM. However, the reopening of the airport is subject to the airport authorities. 

 

Amstar Staff:  

  • Amstar office will remain closed and Amstar staff will be working from home to shelter in place. 

 

Excursions/Activities: 

  • All water and land excursions are canceled during the weekend, expecting to restart operations once weather conditions are appropriate.

STORM LIDIA ADVISORY #3

October 11, 2023 – 11:00 AM CST 

 

Remnants of Lidia dissipated at approximately 4:00 a.m. local time. Today’s forecast calls for clear weather with no rain or strong winds expected. Light damage, including fallen trees and power poles, urban flooding, and connectivity issues are being attended to by Local authorities.  

 

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. 

 

Hotel Status:     

  • Guests at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta resort began returning to the property this morning. We had no other reports of hotels evacuating guests. 

 

Airport Status:   

  • All national and international flights at Puerto Vallarta Airport are operating as scheduled. 

 

Amstar Staff:     

  • Amstar DMC airport staff are at the airport attending to both arriving and departing passengers. 
  • Amstar DMC hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers. 

 

Excursions/Activities:    

  • All land and water activities were canceled for today.  All excursions are being evaluated on an individual basis by experts to determine when normal operations can begin again.

STORM LIDIA ADVISORY #2

October 10, 2023 – 01:00 PM CST

 

Tropical Storm Lidia has strengthened to a Category 2 storm as it continues on a north-northeasterly path approaching Puerto Vallarta, Nayarit, Manzanillo, and the west-central coastline of Mexico. At its current speed, Lidia is expected to make landfall at approximately 6pm local time.

 

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:  

  • Las Islas Marias in Nayarit
  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Manzanillo to El Roblito

 

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for: 

  • El Roblito to Mazatlan

 

Hotel Status:    

  • Due to the trajectory of Hurricane Lidia, as a preventative measure, Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta guests will be relocated to a nearby storm shelter beginning at 1:00 p.m. PT. Guests will be transported back to Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta, when it is deemed safe to return.
  • As of this advisory, no other hotel evacuation notices have been received. This may change according to changing conditions.
  • Amstar Transportation fully operating and ready with buses in case additional hotel(s) evacuation(s) is needed.

 

Airport Status:  

  • All national and international flights at Puerto Vallarta are operating as scheduled until 4 p.m. local time.

  

Amstar Staff:    

  • Amstar DMC airport staff are at the airport ready to welcome and transport customers, both arriving and departing. Airport staff will remain at the airport as long as the airport is operating.
  • Amstar DMC hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers until 3:00 p.m. local time.

  • Manzanillo

Tropical Storm Franklin is emerging off the north coast or the Dominican Republic.  

 

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:  

  • Dominican Republic south coast from Punta Palenque eastward to Cabo Engano 

  

Hotel Status:    

  • All guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed. 
  • Beach areas remain all closed and outdoor activities are canceled. 
  • Hyatt Inclusive Collection hotel staff is ready to welcome and assist customers. 

  

Airport Status (Updated):  

  • Airports have reopened and are ready to welcome and transport customers. 
  • Some flights are delayed or cancelled. 

  

Amstar Staff:    

  • Airport staff is at the airport helping customers with arrivals and departures. 
  • All office and hotel customer service staff will be available starting from 8:30 am on Thursday, August 24th.  

  

Excursions/Activities:

The center of Tropical Storm Franklin is expected to approach the southern coast of the Dominican Republic today, cross the island on Wednesday, and then emerge over the southwestern Atlantic waters late Wednesday. 

 

Note: This advisory remains the same as the previous one except for the Airport Status. 

 

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for: 

  • Dominican Republic entire south and north coasts from Haiti border eastward to Cabo Engano. 

 

Hotel Status:   

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected 
  • Hotel beach areas are all closed and outdoor activities are canceled 

 

Airport Status (Updated): 

  • Punta Cana International Airport remains open. All other airports will close today from 10:00 pm resuming operations on Wednesday, August 23rd at 6:00 am

  • As a precautionary measure, all office and hotel customer service staff were released to return to their homes to shelter-in-place from 12:00 noon today (Tuesday, 22 August) through 8:00 am, Thursday, 24 August

Due to heavy rain on the Island of Aruba, it has been necessary to cancel all tours scheduled for today – Tuesday, 22 August.

All excursion reservations are being rescheduled for tomorrow – Wednesday, 23 August, when better weather is expected.

Aruba International Airport is operating normally and all Amstar are staff fulfilling daily responsibilities.

Tropical Storm Franklin is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to portions of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The center of Franklin is forecast to reach the southern coast of the Dominican Republic by Tuesday night.

 

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for:

  • Dominican Republic, the entire south coast from Haiti border eastward to Isla Saona. 

 

Hotel Status:

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected

 

Airport Status:

  • Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Plata airports continue to be open and operating

Hilary has downgraded to a Tropical Storm and continues to move northwestward along or just off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula. 

 

Watches and Warnings 

  • The government of Mexico has discontinued the Hurricane Watch and downgraded the Hurricane Warning to a Tropical Storm Warning for the Baja California Peninsula

 

Hotel Status: 

  • Hotels in the Los Cabos area are operating normally 

  

Airport Status: 

  • Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is open and operating normally

STORM BEATRIZ ADVISORY #1

June 30, 2023 – 11:00 AM CST

While the first storm of the ’23 hurricane season in the Mexican Pacific, Hurricane Adrian, will not represent a threat for the region, Tropical Storm Beatriz has intensified and has developed into a category 1 hurricane, bringing a risk of hurricane-force winds and a dangerous storm surge to portions of the southwestern coast of Mexico during the next couple of days.

 

A Hurricane Warning is now in effect for:

  • Ixtapa Zihuantanejo
  • Puerto Vallarta

 

Hotel Status:

Storm Roslyn reached hurricane force and has strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane, located of South of Puerto Vallarta. Forecasts project that Roslyn will reach the Mexican coast on Sunday.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for:

  • Playa Perula to El Roblito
  • Las Islas Marias

Amstar DMC Storm procedures have been activated.

Hotel Status:

  • At the moment Dreams & Secrets Bahia Mita are preparing to evacuate guest to Guadalajara, Amstar is providing the necessary buses.

The Center of Fiona is moving toward the northwest away from the Dominican Republic near 8 mph (13 km/h). Weather conditions are expected to improve during the day.

Tropical Storm Agatha has been downgraded to a Tropical Depression. Remnants of Agatha are expected to produce heavy rainfall across southeastern Mexico during the next day or two.

Hurricane Olaf was downgraded to TROPICAL STORM OLAF earlier this morning and is located approximately 125 miles northwest of Los Cabos.  The storm will follow a northwesterly track through the rest of today and is projected to turn west out to sea early Saturday morning.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the Los Cabos area.

Hurricane Grace has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm and some additional weakening is likely this afternoon while Grace continues to cross the Yucatan peninsula. The tropical storm should emerge over the southern Gulf of Mexico this evening, and re-strengthening is anticipated shortly thereafter. 

Tropical storm conditions will continue today across the northern Yucatan Peninsula. 

Storm procedures are active in destinations that have been affected by the storm. 

MEXICAN CARIBBEAN: CANCUN, RIVIERA MAYA, COZUMEL

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Yucatan Peninsula from Cancun to Punta Herrero (several hours south of Tulum), including Cozumel.

HURRICANE GRACE ADVISORY #5

AUG 18, 2021 – 11:00 am EDT

Tropical Storm Grace has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane. The storm is located just west of the Grand Cayman Islands moving westward away from the island.  

On the forecast track the storm is expected to continue on a westward to west-northwestward path for the next several days. Some additional strengthening is forecast before the center of Grace makes landfall along the eastern coast of the Yucatan peninsula early Thursday morning.

Storm procedures in destinations are active in destinations that might be affected along the projected path of the storm.

MEXICAN CARIBBEAN: CANCUN, RIVIERA MAYA, COZUMEL

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Yucatan Peninsula from Cancun to Punta Herrero (several hours south of Tulum), including Cozumel.

  • At this time, we do not expect resorts to evacuate guests.
  • Cancun (CUN) and Cozumel (CZM) International Airports are currently open and operating normally but may experience delays during Thursday 19 AUG.

TROPICAL STORM GRACE ADVISORY #4

AUG 17, 2021 – 11:00 am EDT 

Tropical Depression Grace was upgraded to Tropical Storm Grace during the past 24 hours.  The storm is tracking in a westward direction and is expected to pass near or over Jamaica today. 

On the forecast track the storm will continue on a westward to west-northwestward path and then approach Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula late Wednesday or early Thursday.

As a precaution, we have activated storm procedures in destinations that might be affected along the projected path of the storm.

JAMAICA:

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the entire island.

  • Amstar DMC customers in the destination are safe and secure in their resorts.
  • AIRPORT: Montego Bay’s Sanger International Airport (MBJ) is open and operating, with potential flight delays due to the storm.
  • Amstar DMC staff are at the airport ready to welcome and transport customers, both arriving and departing.

Tropical Storm Grace has been downgraded to Tropical Depression Grace.  The storm is currently passing just south of island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic/Haiti) moving toward the west – away from Punta Cana, La Romana, St. Domingo, and Puerto Plata. A west to west-northwestward motion is expected over the next several days.  On the forecast track, the center of Grace will pass between Jamaica and Cuba.

Grace is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h). A continued west-northwestward motion at a slower forward speed is expected over the next few days. On the forecast track, the center of Grace will move over Hispaniola on Monday, near or over eastern Cuba on Tuesday, and near or over west-central Cuba on Wednesday.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Dominican Republic.

TROPICAL STORM FRED

AUGUST 11, 2021 –11:00 am EDT

Tropical Cyclone 6 was upgraded to TROPICAL STORM FRED at approximately 11:00pm last night, tracking west just south of Puerto Rico, heading toward the Dominican Republic on the island of Hispanoala.

As a precaution, we have activated storm procedures in destinations that might be affected along the projected path of the storm.

At 800 am, the center of Tropical Storm Fred was located just South of Eastern Dominican Rupublic tracking west-northwest with maximum sustained winds at 50 mph and is expected to pass over the country later today.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Dominican Republic on the south coast from Punta Palenque eastward and on the north coast from the Dominican Republic/Haiti border eastward

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:

As of 9:00 am

  • Amstar’s offices are open and operating normally.
  • We do not expect resorts to evacuate guests.
  • Amstar’s Customer Service Representatives in hotels are assisting with flight cancellations, early returning home requests, rescheduling excursions and/or issuing refunds.

Amstar is tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone 6, which is currently located in the the Caribbean basin.

STORM ELSA remains a TROPICAL STORM and is expected to move across central and western Cuba later today and pass near the Florida Keys early Tuesday.  Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As of 8:00 pm EDT last night, all storm advisories were discontinued for Jamaica.

  • AIRPORT: Montego Bay’s Sanger International Airport (MBJ) is open and operating normally.

By Monday, 5 July, Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to move across central and western Cuba and head toward the Florida Straits.  Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday.

  • Intermittent rain is expected from later today, with minimal threat of storm force winds affecting resorts areas from Ocho Rios and westward along the northern coastline.

STORM ELSA continues to move toward the west-northwest as a category 1 hurricane. Elsa will move near the southern coast of Hispaniola later today and tonight, and move near Jamaica and portions of eastern Cuba on Sunday. By Monday, Elsa is expected to move across central and western Cuba and head toward the Florida Straits.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: 

A Hurricane Warning and a Tropical Storm Warning are still in effect for separate portions of southern coast of Dominican Republic. A Tropical Storm Watch is still in effect for the North coast of the Dominican Republic from Cabo Engano to Bahia de Manzanillo.

  • At this time, we do not expect resorts to evacuate guests.
  • Heavy rain, high winds, and rough seas today through Sunday afternoon are expected, mostly further west along the southern coast. Punta Cana and La Romana are expected to be less affected.
  • AIRPORTS: Punta Cana (PUJ), La Romana (LRM) & Santo Domingo (SDQ) International Airports are open and operating normally.

JUNE 30, 2021

Tropical Storm Enrique degraded into a Tropical Depression as it passed through the Gulf of California and along the Cabo San Lucas coastline during today’s early morning hours.

Here is an update on the current situation in the destination:

  • All Amstar DMC customers in-destination are safe and secure in their resorts.
  • Los Cabos International Airport is open and operating under normal conditions and Amstar DMC staff are at the airport ready to welcome and transport customers, both arriving and departing.
  • As a precaution; the port is closed and no water activities are operating today.
  • The storm's impact on the Los Cabos area was minimal. Excursions and activities are expected to be operating as usual by Thursday, July 1.

TROPICAL STORM ENRIQUE ADVISORY

JUNE 28, 2021

Storm Enrique - currently a Tropical Storm - affected Puerto Vallarta yesterday and earlier today and is projected to approach Mexico’s state of Baja California in the coming days.   

The security, well-being, and safety of our customers and team members is always, and remains, our highest priority.

The storm’s impact on Puerto Vallarta was minimal with only some heavy rain. Resorts were not evacuated. Excursions and activities are expected to be operating as usual by Wednesday, June 30.

Due to the projected path of the storm – most likely heading towards Los Cabos – Amstar DMC is taking all necessary measures to ensure the well-being of our customers staying in the area. Current forecasting indicates that Tropical Storm Enrique will impact the Cabo San Lucas coastline in the early hours of Wednesday, June 30 – and continue throughout the day.
